Maple Leafs, Ilya Samsonov agree to a deal

Ilya Samsonov, a former first-round pick in the 2015 draft, played with the Capitals for his first three seasons of professional hockey.

Ilya Samsonov, an unrestricted free agent goalie, and the Maple Leafs have reached an agreement, a source confirmed.

The Leafs' cap hit drops to $5.3 million thanks to a reported $1.8 million cap hit on his one-year contract.

Since being selected by Washington in the first round of the 2015 draft, Samsonov, 25, has played for the team.

In 89 career games over three seasons, he recorded a 52-22-8 record with a 2.81 goals-against average and a.902 save percentage.

Goaltender Vitek Vanecek and the Capitals' 46th overall pick were exchanged for two draft picks by the New Jersey Devils last week.
